Essential Checklist Before Renting Locally

Before renting a car from other rental companies in Hungary and Europe, check this content first to prevent unnecessary additional fees.

3 Common Trap Cases of Local European Car Rentals

Some global and local car rental companies in Europe (Hungary) attract customers with very low booking prices online, but demand massive additional fees at the counter using complex terms and regulations.

1. Mandatory Physical Credit Card & Excessive Deposit

Other Companies (Typical Local Agencies)

You must present a physical credit card in the driver's name. Mobile pay, debit cards, third-party cards, and cards with abbreviated names are strictly rejected. If you don't have one, the rental will be denied, or you will be forced to buy expensive local Super CDW (SCDW) insurance costing €15 to €100 per day. Also, a high deposit of €200 to €4,000 will be blocked on your card.

JOAJO's Safe Policy

Considering the payment convenience of customers, JOAJO RENT supports physical credit card as well as debit card payments and deposits, without forcing insurance upgrades at the counter. The price at the time of booking is the final price.

2. Punitive Surcharges for Driving Experience and Age

Other Companies (Typical Local Agencies)

If the driving license has been held for less than 12 months, an inexperienced driver fee of €1,000 is charged, regardless of the rental length. Furthermore, young drivers aged 21-22 (and 23-25 for automatic/larger cars) pay a Young Driver fee of €12/day, and senior drivers aged 70+ pay a Senior Driver fee of €7.5/day.

JOAJO's Safe Policy

JOAJO RENT does not charge unreasonable punitive fees based on age or driving experience. Everyone can rent under our transparent and fair base rate policies.

3. Hidden Fees for Cross-Border, After-Hours, and Delays

Other Companies (Typical Local Agencies)

Crossing borders requires an extra fee of €10 to €25 per day, and unauthorized travel incurs a €500 fine and the obligation to tow the car back to Hungary at your own expense in case of breakdown. Also, out-of-hours pickup (19:00-07:00) costs a €20 night fee. Severe flat-rate penalties apply for minor damages: €500 for a lost key, €200 per damaged tire, €200 for smoking, and even €200 for a lost cup holder. Motorway toll vignettes are also not included and must be purchased separately.

JOAJO's Safe Policy

JOAJO RENT includes Hungarian highway vignette (toll pass) and EU cross-border driving rights in the base rate at no extra cost. We adhere to transparent, all-in pricing with no hidden charges.
